Crabitat Supplies To Get You Started

Fish Tank-You can start out with a 10 gallon tank, I don't recommend anything smaller. Soon you'll want a bigger tank it's depends on how many crabs you plan on having. I started out with 2 crabs and a 15" hex tank and soon bought a 36" long and 19" tall bow front tank and I now have 17 crabs! Use glass tank with a lid, not a plastic or wire one as it won't hold the humidity which is vital for hermit crabs.

Play Sand-You can buy play sand at your local hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. It has worked well for me and it's inexpensive. Marine and calci sand can be very expensive as you need to have enough sand for your crabs to completely bury themselves as they do that to molt or destress.

Two Bowls-You'll need one for salt water (I use Oceanic Natural Sea Salt mix with dechlorinated water) and one for dechlorinated water (I use Zoo Med Hermit Crab Drinking Water Conditioner) your crabs should be able to completely bathe themselves but be able to get out, if using a deep bowl you can put rocks, shells or plastic plants for them to get out as they will drown.

Natural Sea Sponges-You'll need a small one for each bowl. Crabs will drink from it and it will help with the humidity your tank needs.

Shells or Bowls For food-I have 2 feeding bowls as I have 17 crabs. Shells can be used for treats.

Extra Sea Shells-Several different sizes for your crabs to change into as it grows, 3-4 shells per crab.

Plastic Or Silk Plants-They love to climb and hide, don't use ones with metal in it as it can be harmful to your crab.

Huts-They need places to hide so a hut made out of coconuts make a good hermie house. Go to My Crabby Tips on how to make your own hermie huts for cheaper than buying them.

Thermometer+Humidity Gage-Your tank should be regulated, the temp. should be 75-80 and the humidity should be 71-81. Humidity is vital to your crabs well being, They need it to breathe.
